Customer Pain Points and Solutions

Breakbulk and Ro-Ro shipping handles cargo that cannot fit inside standard containers: vehicles, construction machinery, steel coils, pipes, and wind turbine blades. The complexity lies in vessel chartering, stowage engineering, and port handling coordination at both ends.

Pain Point: Vessel Availability

Heavy-lift and Ro-Ro vessels are not on fixed schedules like container ships. Chartering requires 2 to 4 weeks of advance booking, and vessel positioning costs can make small shipments uneconomical.

Solution: Vessel Network

Meicheng maintains a network of heavy-lift and Ro-Ro vessel operators with up to 8,000 CEU capacity. Part-charter and consolidated breakbulk options allow smaller shipments to share vessel space, reducing cost per unit.

Pain Point: Stowage Engineering

Improper stowage of heavy or oversized pieces can cause cargo shift, deck damage, or vessel stability issues. Certified stowage planning is required for pieces over 50 tons.

Solution: Certified Planning

Meicheng engages certified marine surveyors for stowage planning and lashing engineering. Loading plans are approved before cargo arrives at the terminal, and discharging supervision is provided at destination.

Buyer FAQ

What is the minimum shipment size for breakbulk shipping?: There is no strict minimum. Breakbulk service is engaged per shipment, starting from a single oversized piece or a small batch of vehicles. Part-charter options allow smaller shipments to share vessel space.
What transit time should I expect for breakbulk shipping?: 25 to 40 days port-to-port depending on the destination. Vessel scheduling is less frequent than container ships, so departure timing depends on vessel availability and charter arrangement.
What packaging is required for breakbulk cargo?: Breakbulk cargo is shipped without container packaging. Steel cradles, wooden skids, or custom frames are used. Vehicles and machinery are typically driven or lifted onto Ro-Ro vessels. Lashing chains and wire ropes secure cargo to the vessel deck.
What payment terms are available?: 30% advance by T/T with 70% balance against copy of bill of lading. For large project shipments, L/C at sight is accepted. Vessel charter deposits may be required depending on the charter terms.
Can you provide pre-shipment inspection reports?: Pre-shipment cargo condition surveys with photo documentation are included. For vehicles and machinery, pre-loading condition reports are issued before Ro-Ro loading. Stowage plans and heavy-lift certificates are provided after loading.
Can we use our own brand or logo on shipping documents?: Yes. Bill of lading can be issued under the shipper's or consignee's nominated party. Switch B/L and house B/L are available for confidential trade arrangements.
Do you offer OEM shipping arrangements?: For OEM shipments, Meicheng provides neutral breakbulk forwarder service with blind shipping. Factory identity is not disclosed on shipping documents, and cargo can be delivered directly to the end buyer.
